George's Taverna is a small, and charming restaurant in the heart of Steveston Village. The décor is based on the life of a fisherman, and homey with wooden chairs and plenty of little items to look at. Adorning the walls are requisite photographs of charming Greek villages and the fisherman lifestyle.
Since opening its doors, the eatery has become a favorite spot among locals because of the heaping servings of home-style Greek cuisine. The calamari appetizer is a mountain of deep fried baby squid goodness. House specials include spanakopita (spinach and cheese wrapped in phyllo pastry), souvlaki dinners, saganaki (fried cheese), Evan's fries, and keftethes (Greek-style meatballs). But the best dish in the house, without a doubt, is the roast lamb. The meat is tasty and tender and falls off the bone with just a light touch of the fork. All entrees include rice pilaf, greek salad, oven-roasted potatoes and tzatziki sauce.
